Sarah Harris is President and a founding member of Hope for NKH, Inc. Her desire to further develop the resources available to families whose lives are profoundly touched by NKH (non-ketotic hyperglycinemia) began shortly after her precious son Joseph Anthony Harris passed away October 13, 2004 at nine days of age from this devastating disorder. Sarah is working to align the goals of the for-profit resource organization, The NKH International Family Network, which was started in 1996 by Karen Carter & MaryLou Chandler, and the non-profit Hope for NKH. A key objective of Hope for NKH is to provide a vehicle to solicit donations of a non-profit nature from individuals and corporations through a variety of fundraising techniques.
Sarah graduated from high school in 1998, and spent two years at a local community college. She then joined the U.S. Air Force and spent 3 years at Cheyenne Mountain Operation Center (NORAD) in Colorado Springs, Colorado. While serving in Colorado Sarah was the Secretary for the CMOC booster club. After Jojo’s death, she and her husband were relocated to Tacoma, Washington to be closer to family. Sarah and her husband Joseph welcomed a healthy baby girl, Emma Jolynne Harris into the family April 2006. In 2009, through adoption they added a son, Shawn Anthony Harris into their family. In March 2010 Sarah and her family were once again touched by NKH. They welcomed Sophia Grace Harris into the world kicking and screaming. Sarah and her family were able to spend 5 days with Sophia before she joined her big brother Jojo in Heaven. Sarah is now pursuing her college degree with the help of her GI bill, while working part time. Her husband has been with the Tacoma Police Department for four years.
Sarah’s hobbies include spending time with family, playing softball (a continuation of her many years on the playing field as a child and young adult), playing games, spending time outdoors, and taking up new hobbies.
